Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Montreal match.
With Coco Gauff (WTA No. 2) out of the draw, Madison Keys (WTA No. 8) has emerged as the tournament’s top seed and clear title favourite on paper. However, she now faces a serious test in the form of Clara Tauson (WTA No. 19).
Madison Keys
In the round of 16, Keys overcame Karolina Muchova (WTA No. 14) in a tough three-set battle (4:6, 6:3, 7:5). It was the first time this week she faced an opponent of similar calibre, allowing for a clearer assessment of her current form. Her performance stood out particularly on first serve, where Madison won an impressive 80% of points, and her aggressive game style translated into winning 81% of service games.
Clara Tauson
Tauson, meanwhile, stunned world No. 3 Iga Świątek in straight sets (7:6, 6:3). That said, the Pole was far from her best in that match, converting just 22% of her break point chances and gifting Tauson the win through unforced errors. Still, the Danish player deserves credit for holding serve consistently, winning 82% of her service games.
Madison Keys vs Clara Tauson Prediction
This match has all the makings of a genuine battle. Both players are in fine form and fully capable of pushing each other deep. While Keys is rightly considered the favourite, it’s hard to see her cruising through in straight sets. Tauson has every chance of taking at least one set.
