After four matchdays, Borussia Dortmund trail league leaders Bayern Munich by two points. That is not a concern at this stage, although every point matters in the Bundesliga. With that in mind, the team travel to face Mainz 05.

Mainz have been extremely inconsistent at the start of the season. They earned their first win only on Matchday 4, and it came against a struggling Augsburg (4:1). In that game, first-choice midfielder Dominik Kohr was sent off, and without him it will be difficult to keep Borussia Dortmund in check. That is especially true given the hosts’ defensive issues: Mainz have conceded in every league game.

Borussia Dortmund continue to show they are not only well-drilled but also resilient. After a chaotic finish in the Champions League clash with Juventus (4:4), the team stayed switched on and took all three points against Wolfsburg (1:0). It is important that Serhou Guirassy finally has a partner in attack. Karim Adeyemi earned a place in the starting XI on Matchday 3 and has made the most of it: 4 goal contributions (2+2) in three matches.
Mainz 05 vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction
We do not anticipate much drama in this one. Borussia Dortmund should win comfortably thanks to their superior quality and take all three points, especially considering a major absence for the hosts.
