Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Spanish La Liga match.
The current Copa del Rey finalist failed to secure a win in the first two rounds of La Liga, a path also mirrored by Sevilla. Both teams are finding it tough at the start of the campaign, as they were unable to strengthen their squads over the summer.
Mallorca
Against Real Madrid (1:1), Mallorca showed mettle and effectively resisted the attacks of the giants. However, away against Osasuna (0-1), everything went awry. The team created just 0.35 xG with two shots on target over 90 minutes in Pamplona, even though they had more possession than the hosts (54-46). The coaching staff might consider changes in their attacking lineup — Dani Rodríguez, Vedat Muriqi, and Takuma Asano have been ineffective in positional attack.
Sevilla
Against Las Palmas (2:2) and Villarreal (1:2), Sevilla created a total of 3.07 xG. The team should be satisfied with such statistics, although they find it excessively difficult to create chances from open play. All of Sevilla’s attacking hopes rest on the wings with Lucas Ocampos and Dodi Lukebakio, who can be easily blocked by a deep defensive line, which is precisely how their next opponents play.
Mallorca - Sevilla Prediction
Since the 2019/20 season, only one of the eight encounters between Mallorca and Sevilla has featured 3+ goals. On Tuesday, both sides are expected to play in their usual conservative style, prioritising defensive solidity.
