Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Allsvenskan match.
While not officially a derby, this matchup remains a key fixture between two sides that consistently vie for supremacy in Swedish football. Historically, the advantage has leaned towards Malmö, who have only once finished below AIK in the Allsvenskan standings during the 2020s.
Malmö
With a third of the current season completed, Malmö find themselves fifth in the standings, four points adrift of AIK, who sit third. They have already suffered two defeats, including a surprising 1:2 home loss to Brommapojkarna, who currently sit 12th. Four of Malmö’s last five fixtures were against sides in the lower half of the standings, yet the squad managed to secure just seven of a possible 12 points. Before that run, they faced a more challenging opponent in Hammarby and lost 0:2.
AIK
AIK also recently faced Hammarby, playing out a goalless draw in the capital derby at the Strawberry Arena. They remain the only unbeaten side in the Allsvenskan this season. However, their progress has been slightly hampered by a series of draws — three of their four stalemates have come in the last four outings. Without those, AIK could well be top of the standings.
Malmö vs AIK Prediction
Two of the recent head-to-head encounters between Malmö and AIK also ended 0:0, both played in Solna. The two teams have already met earlier this season. This upcoming clash is a rearranged fixture from Matchday 18, originally scheduled for the first weekend in August, but moved due to European qualification commitments. Based on current form and overall consistency, AIK appear well-positioned to avoid defeat away from home.
