The trip to Malmö is unlikely to pose a significant challenge for Galatasaray, who are nearing the top position in the Europa League standings. The Turkish side are the joint highest scorers in the competition, along with Ajax, with both teams netting 13 goals, which should make the crisis-hit underdog an easy target for the Istanbul giants.
Malmö
Malmö fans likely expected better results from their team ahead of the final Europa League round in 2024. The Swedes are 30th in the overall standings, having suffered four defeats in five matches. During their visit to Ferencváros (1:4), they controlled possession more frequently (61%–39%), but their opponents’ efficiency was far superior (1.48 xGA and six shots on target).
Galatasaray
Galatasaray's victory over Sivasspor (3:2) extended their unbeaten run to 17 games. This streak began back in August following their elimination from Champions League qualification. In the fifth round of the Europa League, the Istanbul side couldn't quite secure a win at AZ Alkmaar (1:1) but were more threatening in attack (2.10–1.67 in xG, 19–12 in shots). With Mauro Icardi and Victor Osimhen sidelined through injury, Michy Batshuayi is set to start, and the Belgian is eager to seize playing time from his rivals.
Malmö vs Galatasaray Prediction
In the month since clinching the Swedish championship, Malmö have had little match practice. Galatasaray will likely generate a good number of opportunities in Scandinavia, but it’s safer to back the favourites with a handicap.
