Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Everton have been through a trial by fire this December, but now they face a slightly rusted challenge. The Merseyside side are currently in better form than Manchester City. Can they withstand the test at the Etihad?
Manchester City
Manchester City are not lacking in quality players. They are missing only Rodri Hernandez, who has been unavailable for a while, and Rúben Dias. They've had to adapt to playing without them. Occasionally, defenders get slight knocks, affecting their form. This was evident in their away defeat to Aston Villa (1:2), especially with the first goal conceded. This marks Manchester City's third consecutive defeat, and in their last five Premier League matches, they have earned just four points. As a result, they now find themselves outside the European spots.
Everton
In contrast, Everton have accumulated six points over this period, albeit with just one win. Achieving more would have been difficult. In their last two fixtures, they faced Arsenal and Chelsea. Both matches ended goalless as Everton's defence and Jordan Pickford held firm. Prior to this, their derby with Liverpool was cancelled. The credit goes to Everton's defenders for limiting the opposition; Arsenal managed only 1.22 xG and Chelsea 1.17 xG.
Manchester City vs Everton Prediction
Everton have kept three consecutive clean sheets, having also shut out Wolverhampton (4:0) earlier. It's far from guaranteed that the champions will score. While they are undoubtedly capable, Everton have England's long-serving goalkeeper, despite any criticisms. We believe this match could easily end with a total under.
