Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
Manchester City approach one of the biggest fixtures of the second half of the season in low spirits. They’ve just crashed out of the Champions League after a hopeless second-leg defeat to Real Madrid. Liverpool also failed to win their last game, but at least they remain top of the Premier League.
Manchester City
To be fair, Manchester City’s European fate was all but sealed after the first leg in Manchester, where they allowed Real Madrid to stage a comeback victory. Any hopes of a turnaround at the Santiago Bernabéu were crushed by Kylian Mbappé, who single-handedly dismantled Manchester City with a stunning hat-trick. Omar Marmoush’s heroics against Newcastle United count for little when you’re up against the reigning Champions League holders. And with Manchester City still reeling from their 5:1 thrashing at the hands of Arsenal at the Emirates, backing them for a win here seems risky.
Liverpool
Liverpool, meanwhile, were held to a thrilling draw in their rescheduled Matchweek 29 fixture against Aston Villa. That game had to be played early to accommodate the EFL Cup final. Liverpool took the lead in the first half following a shocking defensive mistake from the hosts, only to concede twice before the break. Given their defensive lapses, they were fortunate to claw their way back for a draw.
Manchester City vs Liverpool Prediction
With both teams looking shaky at the back but boasting immense firepower up front, we’re confident this game will be high-scoring.
