Chelsea couldn’t hold out in Munich against Bayern Munich, with Harry Kane influential (1:3), but can Manchester United, with the manager under pressure, hold firm against the visitors?
Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has been at the club for only 10 months, and the question of his future has become acute. He has three matches to put things right before the October international break. The club are now in the middle of the bottom half, back in a position that became familiar last season. The Manchester derby against Manchester City highlighted the problems once again. No matter how many forwards you buy, without a solid defence you will not get results, and there was clear disorganisation at the back for the team. The defenders could not cope with them for pace or physicality. Hence two goals for Erling Haaland and a 0:3 scoreline.
Chelsea
The visitors lost to Bayern Munich on merit, but in spells looked very competitive, as Enzo Maresca noted. Harry Kane would not have been stopped even by the defence of Manchester City, let alone Manchester United. Meanwhile the goal scored by Cole Palmer was superbly taken. If even Bayern Munich’s back line were exposed by his acceleration, the hosts’ defenders are likely to struggle to contain him. The player found the net again, but it was disallowed.
Manchester United vs Chelsea Prediction
In the Premier League, Chelsea have only managed draws at best, and we do not expect Manchester United to stop the visitors now. The pressure on the hosts will only heighten the nerves. A straight win for Chelsea, risky as that may be.
