Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English Premier League match.
On Sunday, two Europa League participants and mid-table neighbours with seven points each will clash at Old Trafford. Both teams are not where they want to be, so both will be playing for the win.
Manchester United
Manchester United played a day earlier on Wednesday, but their opponent was tougher. The Dutch league, represented by Twente, is still stronger than the Azerbaijani league. It’s no surprise that Manchester United dropped points. They opened the scoring late in the first half but allowed the opponent to equalise in the second. This isn't great, but the return of midfielder Mason Mount, who was out for a month, is a positive. This was the second offensive return in a week. In the previous round against Crystal Palace, Rasmus Højlund played for the first time since Euro 2024. So, we can expect an improvement in the attacking play of Manchester United.
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur won against Qarabağ (3:0), even despite the sending off of defender Radu Drăgușin in the eighth minute for a last-man foul. Fortunately, this did not prevent the team from showing their attacking prowess, and they managed to cover the total over 2.5 on their own, thanks to excellent finishing (1.42 xG). However, despite the clean sheet, their defence was not flawless. Qarabağ created several scoring chances, including a missed penalty. By the way, the mentioned bet on the total over 2.5 has hit in five out of Tottenham's six matches.
Manchester United vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
Both teams will likely be stronger in attack than in defence. Radu Drăgușin is unlikely to play, but there are vulnerabilities in defence for both the hosts and the visitors. It’s worth noting that their last encounter at Old Trafford ended in a 2:2 draw. We’re betting on a high-scoring game.
