Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Halle match.
Alexander Zverev appears to be building strong momentum on home soil, and ATP Halle continues to be one of his most successful stops on the tour. Marcos Giron made a promising start to the season, but his current form raises concerns as the grass-court swing begins.
Marcos Giron
Marcos Giron has endured a stop-start campaign. The American produced respectable results on hard courts and reached the round of 16 at Indian Wells. However, his performance level dropped notably on clay, where he was eliminated in the first or second round in seven of eight tournaments. Now switching to grass, he opens this stretch with a patchy record — 10 wins in 18 grass-court matches over the past two seasons. His track record against top-10 players on this surface is poor, with just one win against five defeats. His head-to-head record against Alexander Zverev is also a concern: three meetings, three losses, including a comprehensive defeat in their most recent grass encounter (2:6, 1:6, 4:6).
Alexander Zverev
Alexander Zverev has been in outstanding form. Since February 2024, he has not lost a single opening-round match, winning 13 in a row. He tends to thrive when playing in Germany, and ATP Halle has been a particularly productive venue, where he’s reached two finals and two semi-finals. Earlier this grass-court season, he made it to the final in Stuttgart, falling only to the tricky Taylor Fritz, who has beaten him seven times in ten meetings. On his way to the final, Zverev overcame two top-35 American players — Brandon Nakashima (No. 32) and Ben Shelton (No. 10). His grass-court serve has been especially effective, with a 71% first-serve percentage and a 75% win rate behind it, averaging nine aces per match.
Marcos Giron vs Alexander Zverev Prediction
Alexander Zverev has a clear advantage over Marcos Giron in all key areas — form, rhythm, grass-court proficiency, and previous meetings. The German has been consistently strong in early rounds, and it’s difficult to see Marcos Giron posing any serious threat in this matchup.
