Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the CONCACAF Gold Cup match.
Mexico
Mexico secured two wins from their three group-stage matches. A third victory wasn’t essential — a draw was enough to seal top spot in the group and avoid a quarter-finals clash with the United States. That’s exactly what they achieved, playing out a goalless draw with Costa Rica. The squad took time to settle into the tournament, conceding twice against the Dominican Republic, but ultimately secured a 3:2 win.
Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia entered the group stage as favourites against both Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti, yet still found the round difficult. Were it not for a late equaliser against Trinidad and Tobago on the final matchday, they would have finished third and missed out on the knockout round. Saudi Arabia have scored just two goals throughout the competition — one of the lowest totals in the tournament, and the weakest among the remaining quarter-finalists.
Mexico vs Saudi Arabia Prediction
These teams last met at the World Cup in Qatar, where Mexico claimed a 2:1 victory. They are expected to have the advantage once more and are likely to secure another win. However, given that Saudi Arabia allowed only a single goal even against the United States, a high-scoring affair seems unlikely, and the total number of goals is expected to remain under four.
