Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Both sides look to break out of poor form. Middlesbrough have nearly lost their playoff hopes after a string of defeats, while Queens Park Rangers are on a losing streak, though at least they are now clear of the relegation zone.
Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough seemed to be turning things around with two wins after a five-game losing streak, but their latest defeat to Swansea City (0:1) exposed the same old issues. Injuries have severely weakened the team, and against Swansea City, they failed to create anything of note. By the 70th minute, Middlesbrough had produced just one shot on target and ended the match with a mere 0.38 xG. Their lack of creativity raises serious doubts about their Premier League aspirations.
Queens Park Rangers
Queens Park Rangers are currently on a three-game losing streak. Like Middlesbrough, they lost their last match 0:1. They were defeated away to West Bromwich Albion, who are battling for a place in the top six. The turning point of the game came in the 45+3 minute when the home side had their right-back sent off. By this point, West Bromwich Albion were ahead thanks to a penalty, but had only managed two shots on goal overall. After the break, QPR dominated proceedings – 77% possession, six shots, but only one on target.
Middlesbrough vs Queens Park Rangers Prediction
Considering both teams’ poor finishing and struggles in the final third, this match is unlikely to be high-scoring. Even if a goal is forced through, it is hard to see more than one per side.
