Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Colombian Primera A match.
This fixture will decide the Apertura finalists. Both Millonarios and Independiente Santa Fe are level on nine points, but Millonarios hold a one-goal advantage in goal difference, meaning a draw would be enough to secure their place in the final.
Millonarios
Although Millonarios are considered favourites heading into this clash, it would be premature to assume their progression is guaranteed. Both of their previous home fixtures in the final stage ended in draws. The team failed to overcome two lower-ranked opponents in those matches. That said, they did claim a 2:0 win over Independiente Santa Fe during the regular season. That match took place in March, shortly after the league resumed following the international break.
Independiente Santa Fe
Since that 26 March defeat, Independiente Santa Fe have established themselves as a strong side away from home, winning five of their next seven matches on the road. Jorge Bava was appointed head coach in early April after a month-long search. Even in their only away loss under his guidance, the team managed to find the net. One of their two defeats in this run came in a meaningless fixture on the final day of the regular season.
Millonarios vs Independiente Santa Fe Prediction
Independiente Santa Fe are the top scorers in Group B, and we expect them to hit the target again on Thursday. A draw seems a likely outcome, which would ultimately benefit Millonarios. We're less certain about a home win, as a draw would be sufficient for the hosts.
