Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Millwall head into this fixture on the back of a draining FA Cup fifth-round clash on Saturday, while Bristol City have had over ten days to prepare, with their last outing taking place on 21 February.
Millwall
Millwall’s cup tie against Crystal Palace was going to be an uphill battle after goalkeeper Liam Roberts saw red card in just the eighth minute for a reckless high challenge on a Crystal Palace forward. From that moment on, a win against Premier League opposition was unrealistic. Millwall did manage to find the net in first-half stoppage time, but by then they were already (0:2) down. Roberts will be available for the match against Bristol City, but he isn’t the first-choice goalkeeper anyway. That honour belongs to Lukas Jensen, who has recorded 11 clean sheets in the Championship this season, including in Millwall’s last league game – a 1:0 victory over Derby County.
Bristol City
Bristol City may not be as defensively solid as their opponents, but they sit in ninth place, three spots and four points ahead of Millwall. Recent form is nearly identical between the two sides, with both recording two wins, two draws, and a loss in their last five league matches. However, Bristol City have been better travellers this season (14th in the away table) than Millwall have been at home (17th). Notably, their last three away fixtures have all ended in draws.
Millwall vs Bristol City Prediction
Millwall’s exertions in the FA Cup could take a toll on their fitness, particularly in the second half. While their key players were partially rested, fatigue could still be a factor. Bristol City, who have scored the majority of their goals after half-time (29 out of 43), will look to capitalise on this. The visitors are more than capable of finding the net after the break.
