Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Millwall have gone over a month without a defeat, but they face a true test this Saturday as they host the league leaders, Sunderland. How welcoming of a host will Millwall be?
Millwall
It seems almost impossible to score against Millwall—or at least, more than one goal. The last time that happened was in the second round: on August 17, Bristol City emerged victorious (4:3). Even if they concede one goal, it rarely proves decisive. The last team to edge them out with a single goal was Cardiff City in the 10th round, but that was away from home.
Sunderland
Sunderland remain at the top, yet they've stopped winning since the 12th round, and their five-point lead has evaporated. Now, they only lead Sheffield United on goal difference. Sunderland played out goalless draws away to the league's biggest underdogs, Queens Park Rangers, and Preston North End, who are also hovering near the relegation zone. At home, they squandered a victory against Coventry City, who had just changed their head coach (2:2).
Millwall vs Sunderland Prediction
Predicting a winner is tough, with Sunderland leading for nearly the entire campaign and Millwall going seven rounds unbeaten. However, we can forecast a low-scoring affair. Matches at The Den have ended with a total under 2.5 goals in four consecutive instances, and Sunderland have frequently mirrored this on their travels (three out of the last four). Additionally, their past encounters have resulted in scores such as 1:1, 1:1, and 0:1.
