Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
After a month and a half of the new campaign, both Millwall and Watford find themselves in the lower reaches of the Championship table. Their clash in round six could be a turning point for either side.
Millwall
Millwall sit 16th with two wins, only two points above the relegation zone. Their biggest issue is in attack – just four goals scored, with their xG tally 2.33 higher than their actual return, underlining poor finishing. Defensively things are not much better, with seven goals conceded compared to an expected 5.23. Their last outing came in the EFL Cup, drawing 1:1 with Crystal Palace before bowing out on penalties, leaving frustration behind.
Watford
Watford have had a 10-day break since their narrow 0:1 defeat at home to Blackburn Rovers. Despite registering 14 attempts that day, only one was on target, highlighting a lack of sharpness in the final third. Their defensive record is steadier than Millwall’s with six goals conceded, but going forward they average just about a goal per match. Three of their five fixtures have gone under 2.5 goals.
Millwall vs Watford Prediction
When these sides met in March, Millwall edged a 2:1 win away, though that was an exception to their usual low-scoring pattern. More often their games finish 1:0 or 0:0, and this one looks set to follow suit. Expect a cagey contest with few chances.
