Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WNBA match.
The Minnesota Lynx have taken control of their semi-final matchup, winning the opening game at home to move 1-0 up in the series. The Phoenix Mercury now need a quick response to prevent the Lynx from doubling their advantage.
Minnesota Lynx
Game 1 showed that the Minnesota Lynx are not overly reliant on star forward Napheesa Collier. While she drew much of the defensive focus, it was Courtney Williams and Kayla McBride who did the damage, combining for 44 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists. Defensively, the Minnesota Lynx were just as impressive, especially on the perimeter where they restricted the Phoenix Mercury to a miserable 13% shooting from three-point range.
Phoenix Mercury
The Phoenix Mercury have leaned heavily on defence throughout the postseason, averaging just 74.8 points per game. The problem is that the Minnesota Lynx are far more dangerous offensively than the New York Liberty, and the Mercury’s tactical plan fell apart. Satou Sabally, expected to be a key contributor, was limited to just 10 points in a disappointing display.
Minnesota Lynx vs Phoenix Mercury Prediction
The Minnesota Lynx will be determined to tighten their grip on the series at home. With multiple offensive options and a defence that can shut down the Phoenix Mercury’s limited scoring threats, the Lynx should have too much once again.
