Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the 2024 Australian Open match.
Miomir Kecmanović
The game against Tommy Paul was a weird one. Kecmanović was dominating from the start until the second set. But he allowed his opponent to win the second set and the third one. Tommy had an initiative. He had two match points on the tie-break of the fourth set. However, Miomir managed to win the tie-break. Kecmanović won the fifth set (6:0). The Serb wasted too many strengths on the last two rounds, spending 7.5 hours playing. He will have to run a lot playing against Alcaraz, so Miomir will rou out of strength.
Carlos Alcaraz
Carlos didn’t participate in the Australian Open last year. Today, he’s one of the contenders to win the title. His opponents in the previous three rounds won only one set. He beat Lorenzo Sonego (3-1), Richard Gasquet (3-0) and Shang consecutively. Alcaraz knows Kecmanović very well. He beat him in April 2022 in Miami (2-1). Carlos Alcaraz has improved a lot since that moment, so he’s bound to win this game for sure.
Miomir Kecmanović – Carlos Alcaraz prediction
It's a surprise that Kecmanović has reached the fourth round of the Australian Open. He's only 60th in the world ranking. He beat Watanuki in the first game in four sets. Then he eliminated Struff and Paul in five sets. However, now he will face the second player in the world ranking. Will he have enough strength to endure another tough game? I highly doubt it.
Alcaraz is the favourite, anyway. The fourth round is a huge success for Kecmanović, but he's unlikely to advance.
