Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Roland Garros match.
For the second round running, teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva faces a former Russian representative. After easing past Yulia Putintseva, she now takes on world No.17 Daria Kasatkina in what promises to be a fascinating all-Russian showdown. For Andreeva, this is also a chance to avenge her defeat in last year's final in Ningbo.
Mirra Andreeva
Andreeva has been one of the standout performers at Roland Garros this year. She has stormed through the draw without dropping a set, and her dismantling of Putintseva (6:3, 6:1) was particularly impressive. Andreeva lost just one service game and won 76% of points behind her first serve. Mirra has developed a reputation for handling experienced players with surprising composure — she’s won 12 of her last 15 matches against opponents aged 28 and above. On clay this season, she’s lost only three times — twice to world No.2 Coco Gauff — underlining just how consistent she’s been on this surface.
Daria Kasatkina
Kasatkina brushed past Paula Badosa in the last round (6:1, 7:5), but the win came more due to her opponent’s collapse — Badosa committed 41 unforced errors. Daria has often faltered against higher-ranked opposition, with four defeats in her last six matches against top-10 players. Her clay-court form remains patchy: five wins from nine matches this season. Although she holds a win over Andreeva on hard court in Ningbo (6:0, 4:6, 6:4), that contest was far more competitive than the scoreline suggests.
Mirra Andreeva vs Daria Kasatkina Prediction
Andreeva is maturing rapidly and looks increasingly at ease against more seasoned opponents. Her controlled aggression, clean ball-striking, and tactical awareness could overwhelm Kasatkina, who has often struggled to impose herself in high-stakes encounters. Given her current form, Mirra is well placed to take control and dictate terms from the baseline.
