Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Wimbledon match.
Mirra Andreeva
Andreeva has won 20 of her last 24 matches against players outside the top 50. In the first set of her opener against Mayar Sherif, she gave up two breaks but still claimed 73% of points on her first serve. Her grass-court record is solid too — eight wins against five defeats — and she’s hungry to bounce back from last year’s first-round elimination at Wimbledon.
Lucia Bronzetti
Bronzetti delivered a strong performance against Jil Teichmann, denying her opponent any real foothold in the match. That said, the Italian landed just 52% of first serves and hit only 10 winners, benefitting largely from Teichmann’s errors. Her grass record is underwhelming — eight wins and 10 losses — and her recent form has been poor. Leading into Wimbledon, Bronzetti had lost five straight matches by at least seven games, twice suffering a 6-0 set.
Mirra Andreeva vs Lucia Bronzetti Prediction
Andreeva hasn’t hit top gear yet this tournament, but she won’t need to in order to dispatch Bronzetti. The Italian has been losing heavily even to players outside the top 50 — facing a top-10 opponent like Andreeva, it’s hard to see her putting up resistance.
