Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the WTA Berlin match.
In the opening round of the WTA 500 grass-court tournament in Berlin, Mirra Andreeva is set to face Magdalena Frech. Andreeva enters the contest as the favourite, yet Frech has previously shown her ability to test her opponent. Moreover, Andreeva is still searching for consistency on grass courts.
Mirra Andreeva
Following a surprise defeat to Lois Boisson at Roland Garros, Mirra Andreeva has not played any official matches and now returns to the less familiar territory of grass. In 2024, she has lost both of her matches on this surface. Notably, in her last six appearances on grass, each match featured at least 23 games.
Magdalena Frech
Magdalena Frech has recorded just six wins in 14 grass-court matches since the start of 2023. However, she is known for lengthy encounters, particularly this season. In six of her last eight matches, the Total Over 18.5 was reached. Though Frech has lost twice to Mirra Andreeva, both matches extended to at least 21 games.
Mirra Andreeva vs Magdalena Frech Prediction
Mirra Andreeva remains the favourite, but with her current form and limited experience on grass, a dominant win appears unlikely. Magdalena Frech is expected to put up a strong fight and force the match to reach at least 19 games.
