Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Allsvenskan match.
Injury woes continue to hamper Malmö’s climb up the table, with the reigning champions stuck in fifth and losing ground to leaders Mjällby. This head-to-head offers a direct opportunity to close the gap — but it won’t come easy.
Mjällby
Unlike their challengers, Mjällby have made a habit of avoiding slip-ups against the league's strugglers, which has been key to their spot at the top. Going into the June break, they picked up four wins and a draw from their last five fixtures. The squad remains settled, with virtually no long-term absentees, and even those carrying knocks could feature here.
Malmö
Malmö, meanwhile, are still grappling with a lengthy injury list. Key striker Erik Botheim, with seven goals to his name, remains sidelined. Defensive stalwart Pontus Jansson has been out since late May, and now midfielder Otto Rosengren joins the absentees due to suspension after picking up an early booking against Häcken. That match did end in a 3:0 win for Malmö, but followed a disappointing 1:0 away defeat to IFK Göteborg.
Mjällby vs Malmö Prediction
These setbacks will take their toll on Malmö — especially away from home, where they rank just 10th in the league. Mjällby should take full advantage on their own turf, just as they did last year with a 2:1 victory. Don’t expect Malmö to close the gap here.
