Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
In their last game, the Montreal Canadiens demolished the Columbus Blue Jackets (5:1), but it seems they can only dominate teams on their level, as there is hardly anyone weaker. Although the Edmonton Oilers have had their struggles, they are clearly a step above the Montreal Canadiens, so will they calmly take the two points?
Montreal Canadiens
In the game against the Blue Jackets, unlike many other matches, contributions came from all lines with ten different players getting on the scoresheet, as opposed to relying solely on Nick Suzuki (18 games, 7+11) and Cole Caufield (18 games, 12+3). However, Caufield has been quiet in recent games, impacting results immediately. No points against the New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Minnesota Wild led to defeats without a chance. Yet, against the Buffalo Sabres and Blue Jackets, two points brought victories. Opponents need only to shut him down.
Edmonton Oilers
But the leading pair of Canadiens' forwards can hardly compare to the Oilers' leaders. In just the last four games, Connor McDavid has amassed 11 points (4+7), and Leon Draisaitl 8 (4+4). Consequently, the team picked up points in these four encounters. Only the Toronto Maple Leafs handed them an overtime loss (3-4), but the Leafs now boast a more balanced squad. The last time neither McDavid nor Draisaitl scored, Chris Knoblauch’s team fell to the Vegas Golden Knights (2-4).
Montreal Canadiens vs Edmonton Oilers Prediction
The outcome hinges on how the leaders perform. There's little hope resting on the goaltenders; neither pair has been reliable this season (none have even a 90% save rate). However, the Oilers' main attacking duo has a track record against the Canadiens that is 30% better than the hosts' against the Oilers, suggesting plenty of goals for the visitors. Thus, the Edmonton Oilers are expected not to lose.
