Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the NHL match.
The Canadian derbies continue for the Montreal Canadiens early in the season. Having faced the Toronto Maple Leafs, they now meet the Ottawa Senators — seemingly a less daunting opponent, but are you aware of who the Senators now have?
Montreal Canadiens
The Montreal Canadiens are somewhat unpredictable: they managed not to concede against the top-scoring offence of last season, the Maple Leafs (1:0), yet allowed six goals against the Boston Bruins (4:6), a team known for their defensive prowess. Perhaps sticking with the spirited Sam Montembeault, who stopped all 48 shots from the Maple Leafs, would have been wise. Keith Primeau left the ice frustrated with a save percentage below 80%.
Ottawa Senators
The Senators should have fewer concerns over their goaltending. They've acquired Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins and recently secured a 4-year deal with the Swede worth $33 million. In his first official game against the Florida Panthers, he impressed by saving 30 out of 31 shots, with his teammates assisting the newcomer by blocking another 30. The pressure from the champions was immense.
Montreal Canadiens vs Ottawa Senators Prediction
They met twice in pre-season, with the Ottawa Senators coming out on top both times (4:3, 4:2). Last season, the capital club defeated the Canadiens all three times, with only one game extending beyond the regular time. With Linus Ullmark's arrival, the Senators' chances for success are further bolstered.
