Adam Williams presents his prediction for the MLB match.
The Philadelphia Phillies will be hoping to avoid a series sweep as they head into the third and final game against the New York Mets, one of their direct competitors for the National League East title. To stop the slide, the visitors will turn to veteran pitcher Zack Wheeler, who has started the season solidly.
New York Mets
Last time out, starting pitcher Griffin Canning and a quartet of relievers combined to secure a sixth straight victory (5:1) for the New York Mets. With a 17-7 record, the Mets are enjoying their strongest start since 1988—a season that ended with 100 wins and a division crown. The foundation of this form has been outstanding defensive play. They currently lead the league in team ERA (2.37), nearly half a run ahead of their nearest rivals, the San Diego Padres (2.77 ERA).
Philadelphia Phillies
A third consecutive defeat has increased the pressure on the Philadelphia Phillies. Offensively, the team struggled again, going just 3-for-18 with runners in scoring position and failing to score more than four runs for the first time since 13 April. However, Zack Wheeler remains a reliable option on the mound. Now 34, he continues to deliver excellent performances. In his most recent outing against the Miami Marlins (7:2), he struck out 13 and allowed only two runs across seven innings.
New York Mets vs Philadelphia Phillies Prediction
The league’s top defensive unit faces the visitors’ standout pitcher, who last season finished with a 16-7 record and ranked among the top three in ERA (2.57). Given the pitching strength on both sides, there’s every reason to back Total Under on runs.
