Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Newmarket Darley Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1, 7f, 2yo) horse racing event.
The race will be essentially between horses from Aidan O'Brien’s and Charlie Appleby’s stables. Aidan O'Brien's The Lion In Winter is the favourite, showing impressive form by winning both a maiden race and the Acomb Stakes, both at 7f. His stablemates, Expanded and Rock Of Cashel, seem to be the outsiders in this event. While Expanded won his only start in a maiden race, Rock Of Cashel has more experience with four starts but only one win.
On the other side, Charlie Appleby has two strong runners: Ancient Truth and Shadow Of Light. Ancient Truth is unbeaten in three starts, with the last two at 7f, including a Group 2 win. Shadow Of Light has three wins out of four starts, including an impressive victory in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes. The only downside for Shadow Of Light is his lack of experience over 7 furlongs, having raced exclusively at 6 furlongs. Nevertheless, we're backing him to win with odds of 3.75 at Unibet.
Seagulls Eleven from Hugo Palmer's stable adds an interesting element to the race. The colt has had four starts, winning a novice stakes, but fell short against Ancient Truth at Newmarket. Seagulls Eleven is a strong contender, yet this competitive field poses a significant challenge.
