Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the UEFA Nations League match.
In a group where Norway and Slovenia face Austria and Kazakhstan, the early rounds have resulted in shared leadership. At home, the Norwegian side seems to have the edge over Slovenia – even the injury to Martin Ødegaard shouldn't prevent a victory for the Scandinavians.
Norway
Following an underwhelming draw with Kazakhstan (0:0) in Almaty, where Norway dominated the game (xG 1.69 to 0.06), they adopted a more defensive setup. Against Austria at home (2:1), despite injuries to Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Martin Ødegaard, Erling Haaland managed to clinch the winning goal in the closing stages. It's expected that Alexander Sørloth will pair up with Erling Haaland in attack; the forward has made a solid debut for Atlético Madrid (1+2 in La Liga).
Slovenia
Slovenia's attacking inefficiency was evident during Euro 2024, where the country's top talent, Benjamin Šeško, failed to make an impact. Against Kazakhstan (3:0), the RB Leipzig striker shone with a hat-trick, but the team's overall form remained lacking. At home against Austria (1:1), Slovenia produced just 0.31 xG from open play, managing only one shot on target in 90 minutes.
Norway vs Slovenia Prediction
Since October 2018, Norway and Slovenia have met four times in the Nations League – in two matches in Oslo, the visitors have claimed only one point. It's advisable to back a win for the Scandinavians, who boast a far more star-studded squad.
