Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Euro match.
Heading into the final round of the group stage, Iceland are the only side in Group A already eliminated from knockout-stage contention. Norway lead the group and are guaranteed to finish top, regardless of the result.
Norway (women)
Norway secured their position with back-to-back 2:1 wins over Switzerland and Finland. Against Switzerland, they had to come from behind, suggesting lessons were learned from their 2025 UEFA Nations League campaign, where they failed to win a match. The squad may not dominate possession or chances, but they are highly efficient when it matters. Across both matches, Norway registered just 17 total shots and six on target — significantly fewer than their opponents, who managed 32 shots and 13 on target. However, they led in big chances created, with seven compared to three.
Iceland (women)
Iceland were not far behind their opponents statistically, producing 25 total shots to 31 and six on target to eight. However, they lacked sharpness in front of goal. Defensively, the clinical finishing of their opponents proved costly for goalkeeper Cecilia Rán Rúnarsdóttir, who conceded three goals. At just 21 years old, her inexperience might have played a role. In contrast, her counterpart Cecilie Fiskerstrand of Norway is 29 and, despite being 5 feet 8.5 inches tall, has been solid in goal.
Norway (women) vs Iceland (women) Prediction
We expect Norway to maintain their focus on quality rather than volume. Their tactical approach is unlikely to change — the squad will look to remain composed and rely on their individual quality to deliver another strong performance. Iceland may once again generate a high number of attempts, and while that doesn’t always translate into goals, it's a metric that holds value.
