Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Unlike Sunderland, Norwich City have struggled to produce a strong run of form in the closing stages of the season. Norwich City remain distant from the play-off positions, while Sunderland still have hopes of securing automatic promotion. An away match against a mid-standings side should go according to plan for Sunderland.
Norwich City
The 2:1 defeat to bottom-half side Plymouth Argyle once again highlighted Norwich City’s ongoing issues with tactical organisation. In the last round, the team posted an xGA of 1.78 despite enjoying 76% possession, managing only four shots on target in the process. Norwich City has become increasingly predictable: their top scorer, Borja Sainz, has recorded just two goals and no assists in the last nine matches. Since 8 February, the team have claimed only two wins from ten league fixtures.
Sunderland
Strong performances against Millwall and West Bromwich Albion (both 1:0 victories) have helped Sunderland pull 15 points clear of fifth place. The squad are now virtually assured of a place in the play-offs, but they still have an opportunity to aim for a higher seed or even a top-two finish. On the road, Sunderland have collected 32 points – the fourth-best away record in the English Football League Championship.
Norwich City vs Sunderland Prediction
Norwich City lost 1:2 away to Sunderland just before Christmas. Back at home, they are likely to face a visiting side in high spirits – and the visitors are set to take points back with them.
