Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the English League Two match.
Both sides have made a poor start, with the hosts opening with a draw and three defeats, while the visitors are on the same path. A weak start, pressure on the managers and the urgent need to turn things around make this clash in Nottingham a key one.
Notts County
Notts County returned to League Two in 2023 and quickly established themselves in mid-table, finishing sixth last season before being eliminated in the play-offs by AFC Wimbledon. Their new campaign has begun poorly: a 1-1 draw with Newport followed by three straight defeats to Salford (1:2), Wigan Athletic in the League Cup (0:1) and Barrow (1:2). They have only one win in their last 10 matches. Goals are coming, but the defence tends to collapse late on. At home, Notts County have just one win from their last 10 in all competitions, and the pressure on the manager continues to grow.
Shrewsbury Town
Relegated from League One after a disastrous campaign of just eight wins in 46 rounds, Shrewsbury’s fortunes have not improved. They drew 0:0 with Bromley in the opener, then suffered a 0:4 hammering from Tranmere, a 1:3 League Cup elimination by Grimsby, and a 0:2 defeat against Colchester. After three league games, they remain without a goal. A weak attack is paired with a shaky defence, with six conceded in three league fixtures. The only positive lies off the pitch, with talks ongoing over new investment, but on the field the picture is bleak. Historically, Shrewsbury Town have enjoyed the upper hand against Notts County with four straight wins, including a penalty shootout triumph in the FA Cup in 2024, but current form tells a different story.
Notts County vs Shrewsbury Town Prediction
Form and recent numbers point to the hosts. Notts County at least find the net regularly, unlike Shrewsbury Town, who have yet to score in the league.
