Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
Taylor Fritz will look to halt his poor sequence against Novak Djokovic. The American is defending last year’s runner-up finish and is ranked world No. 4, but standing in his way is the Serb, who is chasing a 25th Grand Slam title.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic has an outstanding record at the US Open: he has won all 13 of his quarter-finals at the US Open. At this event the Serb has been excellent too — he has won four matches by a margin of at least eight games. Along the way, Novak has averaged 89% of points won behind his first serve and has already struck 47 aces. In the head-to-head with Taylor Fritz, he holds a clear advantage, with 10 wins, including five on hard courts.
Taylor Fritz
Fritz benefited from the draw at the US Open. The American beat three players ranked outside the world’s top 100 and only met Tomáš Macháč (world No. 22) in the round of 16. However, the statistics against the elite are telling: in quarter-finals against top-10 opponents aged 30 or over, Taylor has lost five of six. Moreover, he has not won a title on hard courts this season.
Novak Djokovic vs Taylor Fritz Prediction
Taylor Fritz can keep it competitive with his serve and the backing of the home crowd, but over the best-of-five format the advantage lies with Novak Djokovic.
