Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
In the first round, Nuno Borges (No. 39 ATP) pulled off a minor upset by knocking out Francisco Cerúndolo (No. 19), sealing the final set to love. While his next opponent is significantly lower in the rankings, there’s no reason for the Portuguese to take his foot off the gas.
Nuno Borges
Borges’ defensive play was particularly impressive. He won 41% of points on his opponent’s serve, compared to just 28% won by Cerúndolo. Crucially, Borges grew stronger as the match wore on, making only two unforced errors in a dominant fourth set (6:0). His consistency on serve was also telling — winning 84% of points behind his own delivery.
Billy Harris
Harris (No. 151), meanwhile, eased past Dusan Lajović (No. 118) in straight sets, though it was more a case of his opponent underperforming than Harris delivering a flawless display. He struck 23 winners but also committed 33 unforced errors — figures that won’t go unpunished against a more clinical player. Lajović managed to win just 7% of points on Harris’ serve, something Borges certainly won’t allow.
Nuno Borges vs Billy Harris Prediction
Harris has likely reached the limit of what a favourable draw could offer. Borges has already come through a serious test and should have little trouble booking a spot in the last 32.
