Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EuroLeague match.
The clash between Olympiacos and Real Madrid promises to be particularly intense, as the Spanish side ousted the Greeks in last season's EuroLeague semi-finals (87:76), and they also triumphed in the 2022/23 final (79:78). This time, Olympiacos will aim to avenge those painful defeats.
Olympiacos
After five rounds, Olympiacos sit in 11th place, having won two out of five matches, with an average of 80.6 points per game. The Greeks have shown reliable form at home, defeating Zalgiris (74:68) and Olimpia Milano (89:68). They boast impressive shooting efficiency, particularly from long range, with 18.2 successful three-pointers per game, the highest in the tournament, and play at a high tempo. Offensively, the Piraeus team relies on Sasha Vezenkov, who has returned from an NBA season and is averaging over 16 points per game.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid are exhibiting a strong offensive game and are among the EuroLeague leaders in scoring, averaging 87.8 points per game. However, they have yet to secure a victory on the road, after falling to Bayern Munich (89:97) and Baskonia (72:76). Their defence away from home remains a weakness, conceding more than 85 points on average. Key players like Facundo Campazzo, who is consistent in both scoring and assisting (averaging eight assists), and Edy Tavares, who provides height and defensive control, remain central to their strategy.
Olympiacos vs Real Madrid Prediction
Considering Olympiacos's robust defence on their home court and Real Madrid's poor away performances, it's logical to assume the Greeks can clinch a victory. Additionally, the motivation to overcome past EuroLeague playoff losses to the Spanish giants should fuel the hosts. We prefer Olympiacos for this match. As an alternative betting option, considering the high scoring nature of both teams, the total points in the match should easily exceed 154.5.
