Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Coupe de France match.
Olympique Marseille's dynamic attack is striving to create competition for Paris Saint-Germain in the Ligue 1 title race. Lille can't boast the same level of consistency, but the Jonathan David and Edon Zhegrova duo remains in top form: the leaders of Lille have collectively tallied (15+2) in the league, so they are expected to pose a threat on Tuesday.
Olympique Marseille
Their victory over Rennes on Saturday (2:1) marked Marseille's sixth win in seven matches since the international break in November. Since 22 December, the Provençal side have secured three consecutive wins with an aggregate score of 11:2. In the last round of the Coupe de France against Saint-Étienne (4:0), Marseille benefited from an early opponent's sending-off, which they expertly capitalised on (20-4 in shots), with Luis Henrique registering 1+2.
Lille
Draws against Nantes (1:1) and Auxerre (0:0) have pushed Lille further from the Ligue 1 title race, yet they have extended their unbeaten streak. They have not lost since mid-September (19 matches in a row). Against Rouen (1:0) in the Coupe de France round of 64, Lille fielded a reserve squad that easily maintained their lead following Ismaily Gonçalves' early goal (5-1 in shots on target).
Olympique Marseille vs Lille Prediction
Unlike their formidable attack, Marseille's defence leaves much to be desired (27.84 xGA over 17 Ligue 1 matches). In 2024, Lille scored 4 goals in 180 minutes against the southern club (3:1 and 1:1). Therefore, betting on a home win may be unwise, so we prefer a bet on both teams to score.
