Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Surprisingly, in this matchup, only the newcomer from League One, Oxford United, has not gone a single match without scoring in this Championship, not the Premier League relegated side, Burnley. Will they score against the favourites?
Oxford United
The average scoring rate of the team is currently at 1.7 goals per match. They also concede quite a bit – 1.3 goals per match. Notably, the BTTS bet has won in four out of their six matches. With an xGDiff of 2.03, it suggests they will at least find the net against their opponent. This figure is surpassed only by Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers, and Burnley.
Burnley
Burnley’s xGDiff is off the charts at 7.35. They have only managed to keep a clean sheet against Sunderland, who are second in the standings. This makes sense. In the last round, Burnley secured a narrow 2:1 victory against another newcomer, Portsmouth, but exceeded their expected goals once again (1.04 xG). It’s hard to expect Oxford United to keep a clean sheet: they allow 9.7 shots on their goal at home, while Burnley need just 10.7 shots to achieve their 2.2 goals per game.
Oxford United vs Burnley Prediction
Oxford United have not yet lost any points at home, but that doesn’t mean that Burnley can't at least draw. What we are certain of is that both teams will score. Oxford United are notably more dangerous at home, but Burnley know how to handle such audacious opponents.
