Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
Oxford United secured a victory against top-five side Blackburn Rovers (1:0) in the previous round and are positioned above Luton Town, who have slipped into the relegation zone. Despite playing at home, they are not considered the favourites for this match.
Oxford United
Since Gary Rowett took charge of Oxford United on 22 December, the team have won four matches in the Championship and drawn two others. In less than a month, they have climbed from 23rd to 15th place, establishing a six-point gap from the relegation zone. When focusing solely on home games, the outlook is even more promising. In 14 fixtures at home, Oxford United have secured seven victories, with the last three on home turf resulting in success, including a win over league leaders Blackburn Rovers.
Luton Town
Luton Town appear to be the least likely team to defeat Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium. They are second-last in the away table with just one win and one draw against 11 defeats, with a goal difference of -19. Even at home, they have failed to win their last two games, going 180 minutes without scoring. The only change in their last outing against Preston North End (0:0) was Matt Bloomfield at the helm, who lifted an otherwise average Wycombe Wanderers side to second place this season before joining the former Premier League club on 14 January. However, the initial match boost is unlikely to be repeated.
Oxford United vs Luton Town Prediction
Despite the change in Luton Town's managerial position, it seems unlikely to have the desired impact at this moment. Oxford United are also running high on adrenaline due to their unbeaten streak, while the visitors have much to rectify. We’re backing the hosts.
