Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
The strong performance of Middlesbrough contrasts with the inconsistent form of Oxford United, leading to expectations of a home team victory. However, this isn't unexpected given the relative positions of the clubs before the recent international break.
Oxford United
Oxford's stable position between 10th and 11th from late September through October has slipped to the relegation zone's doorstep. They currently sit in 16th place, but are only two points ahead of 22nd-placed Cardiff City. In their last four matches, Oxford United have collected just three points, narrowly defeating Hull City at home (1:0). Among the teams they lost to, only Sunderland can be clearly labelled as leaders (0:2).
Middlesbrough
Middlesbrough have been inconsistent. During the first half of autumn, they struggled to score even a single goal, but have recently transformed into prolific scorers. Over the last three of four matches, they have netted 12 goals and secured 7 points. However, they have had their setbacks as well, notably losing to Coventry City when Mark Robins was still in charge. It's worth noting that Middlesbrough played much of that match without a key midfielder, as Hayden Hackney was sent off as early as the 22nd minute.
Oxford United vs Middlesbrough Prediction
The international break can certainly disrupt team rhythm, but as of now, Middlesbrough appear more impressive. They have finally started to convert their numerous goal-scoring opportunities, averaging 2.5 per game. We are confident that they will come out on top, even if it's by a narrow margin.
