Palmeiras
Both clubs are currently leading the way in the Brazilian Serie A after nine rounds. Palmeiras are top of the standings with 22 points, four ahead of Flamengo. Last season, Palmeiras also finished one position above Flamengo, securing second place. They have suffered just one league defeat and remain unbeaten in the group stage of the Copa Libertadores. At the moment, this looks like the most consistent and accomplished club in South American football.
Flamengo
That said, Flamengo’s fanbase is quick to highlight that Flamengo have yet to face Palmeiras. Flamengo have also lost only once in the Brazilian Serie A, but have been held to three draws. In the Copa Libertadores, they are finding things more difficult than Palmeiras, with only two wins from five group-stage matches, currently sitting second in their group. Over their last six matches across all competitions, Palmeiras have come out on top each time, whereas Flamengo have managed just three victories. That run also includes their lone league loss, a 1:2 away defeat to Cruzeiro in Belo Horizonte.
Palmeiras vs Flamengo Prediction
All things considered, Flamengo are showing solid form, but Palmeiras are in exceptional shape. With the additional boost of a full Allianz Parque behind them, we expect the home side to edge this one. The scoreline may be narrow, but the performance gap could be more telling.
