Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EuroLeague match.
The reigning EuroLeague champions have had a somewhat stuttering start to the season, managing only three victories in their opening five fixtures. Now they face ASVEL, the French side capable of imposing their game on any opponent.
Panathinaikos
The Greeks have faced a challenging schedule early on, with just one out of their five games played at home. They broke a two-game losing streak in the last round with a hard-fought away win against Fenerbahçe (81:76). Panathinaikos rely heavily on their offence, averaging 85.6 points per game. However, their defence is less reliable; even newcomers Paris managed to score 84 points against them.
ASVEL
In the previous round, ASVEL presented a tough challenge to Barcelona. The teams entered the fourth quarter tied, though ASVEL ultimately succumbed (83:90). They focus on offence, as they’ve struggled to shore up their defence, averaging 81.4 points scored while conceding even more on average (83.4).
Panathinaikos vs ASVEL Prediction
The hosts are undoubtedly the clear favourites in this matchup, but it would be unwise to overlook the visitors. The French side already put up a good fight against a strong Barcelona team and might replicate such a performance. Given both teams’ offensive tendencies and less-than-solid defences, we recommend considering a bet on the total points scored.
