Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Champions League match.
The marquee match on Wednesday's fixture list is set to determine the ambitions of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City in the Champions League. Both teams find themselves in precarious positions in the standings—each side needs to play for victory in Paris, or else the risk of missing out on the playoffs will significantly increase.
Paris Saint-Germain
Prior to their emphatic win over group stage strugglers Red Bull Salzburg (3:0), Paris Saint-Germain had gone four European matches without a win. Against top sides like Atlético Madrid (1:2) and Bayern Munich (0:1), they generated 2.86 xG from 12 shots on target, but their familiar issues with finishing prevented them from taking points. Of course, PSG's seven consecutive victories are impressive, but they include only two clean sheets—showing a tendency to allow opponents to create dangerous opportunities.
Manchester City
Meanwhile, Manchester City appear not to be looking to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title, and their squad's quality should suffice for a top-four finish. Notably, since late December, they have won four of their last five matches, scoring a total of 22 goals during this span. On Sunday against Ipswich Town (6:0), Phil Foden scored 2+1 by the 42nd minute, while attacking leaders Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland were also in excellent form. It's clear that Pep Guardiola has managed to guide his team out of a crisis, and now he seeks to demonstrate their prowess on the international stage.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Manchester City Prediction
We suggest backing Manchester City with a zero handicap, as they are in form and prepared to claim three points even away from home.
