The coming weekend will feature one of the most intriguing clashes in French football as Paris Saint-Germain face Strasbourg Alsace. Both teams have been delivering high-scoring performances in their matches, though the underdogs are unlikely to showcase their full potential due to personnel losses but will certainly cause problems for the Parisians.
Paris Saint-Germain
Surprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain entered the international break sitting second in the Ligue 1 standings. Despite this, the team maintain an overwhelming advantage in creating chances: 21 goals and 19.95 xG (both metrics are the clear best in the league). Before the break, they nearly squeezed out a win away to Nice (1:1), yet even their superior number of attempts couldn’t break through their opponent's deep defence (9-3 in shots on target).
Strasbourg Alsace
Strasbourg won’t shy away from their usual attacking football, even at the Parc des Princes. The nominal farm club of Chelsea rank in the top four in the French league by xG (13.63), having allowed 11.45 xGA (10th in the league). Following their draw with Lens (2:2), they are without the suspended duo of Guéla Doué and Ismaël Doucouré, and with five players injured, the coaching staff will face significant challenges in assembling the team.
