Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Super Cup match.
Lisbon plays host to the first-ever competitive meeting between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur, with the UEFA Super Cup on the line. For the Parisians, it’s a chance to make amends for their FIFA Club World Cup final defeat, while for the Londoners it’s Thomas Frank’s first official test as head coach.
Paris Saint-Germain
Paris Saint-Germain arrive as clear favourites. The club kept its core intact over the summer, adding only goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier and defender Illia Zabarnyi. All key stars remain, with nine players nominated for the Ballon d’Or. The team didn’t play friendlies, but impressed at the Club World Cup — winning five matches to nil (16:0) and suffering only two defeats in the tournament (0:1 to Botafogo and 0:3 to Tottenham Hotspur).
Tottenham Hotspur
Tottenham Hotspur are in transition. With Son Heung-min gone and James Maddison sidelined with a cruciate injury, they have lost their main creative sparks. Summer performances have been unconvincing — a heavy 0:4 loss to Bayern Munich and a 2:2 draw with League One side Wycombe Wanderers, conceding twice. The midfield is notably weaker than PSG’s in both quality and experience, and newcomers Mohammed Kudus, João Palhinha, and Luka Vušković are still settling in.
Paris Saint-Germain vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction
Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to dictate a high tempo, while Paris Saint-Germain’s superior quality should be evident from the first whistle. The Parisians look well set to lift yet another trophy ahead of the new season.
