Adam Williams presents his prediction for the NHL match.
Just under 48 hours ago, the Philadelphia Flyers thrashed the Anaheim Ducks at the Wells Fargo Center with a resounding 6:0 victory. Can they replicate such a feat against the reigning champions? Even six goals might not suffice this time, as just last month, in December 2024, their previous encounter ended in the Florida Panthers' favour (7:5).
Philadelphia Flyers
A shutout is indeed a rarity for the Flyers' goalies. Only Samuel Ersson has managed to secure two, with the other coming back in late October against the Boston Bruins (2:0). Even the Swede boasts a save percentage below 90% (88.8%). It’s worth noting that the Flyers rank 30th in the league for defensive reliability, conceding 3.47 goals per game. However, they perform decently in attack, averaging three goals and sitting 15th in the offensive rankings.
Florida Panthers
The Panthers aren’t exactly rock-solid at the back either, with 3.07 goals conceded per game, placing them 17th. Yet, their attack remains commendable, with 3.26 goals per game (ranking ninth). Sam Reinhart, their leading scorer from recent seasons, remains in the top 15 in the league for points (25+24). On the Flyers' side, Travis Konecny should pose a challenge with eight points (3+5) in the last five games, and even slightly edges Reinhart overall this season with 50 points (20+30).
Philadelphia Flyers vs Florida Panthers Prediction
It’s important to remember that their first meeting in the 2024/25 season also ended high-scoring — 4:3 after shootouts to the Florida Panthers. Given both teams' offensive strengths and defensive weaknesses, coupled with their previous head-to-head results, a total over 5.5 is highly probable.
