Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
For Portsmouth, this will be their toughest remaining challenge of the season. Survival in the Championship is not yet secured, and every point is valuable. Meanwhile, Leeds United cannot afford any more slip-ups, as their recent draw allowed Sheffield United to close in on them in the automatic promotion race.
Portsmouth
Portsmouth endured a frustrating 1:0 defeat to bottom-of-the-table Luton Town in their previous match—an alarming result for a side fighting to stay in the division. Their away form has been poor throughout the season, with just two victories on the road. At home, however, Portsmouth have been far more resilient. At one point, they went seven consecutive matches unbeaten at Fratton Park, winning four in a row. That impressive streak ended with a 1:0 loss to Millwall, but they have since bounced back with a three-match unbeaten run, even holding high-flying Burnley to a goalless draw.
Leeds United
Leeds United missed a golden opportunity to extend their lead over Sheffield United, drawing 1:1 with West Bromwich Albion. However, that result wasn’t entirely unexpected—West Bromwich Albion are pushing hard for a play-off spot. That draw snapped Leeds’ five-game winning streak, which had seemingly set them on course for automatic promotion. Now, with Sheffield United lurking just a few points behind, Leeds must get back to winning ways or risk losing their position in the top two.
Portsmouth vs Leeds United Prediction
Portsmouth have caused problems for big sides all season, showing no fear even in difficult moments. Right from the start of the season, in the first match, they surprisingly took a point away from Elland Road (3:3). The home side only salvaged a draw in the 95th minute. Portsmouth have grown in confidence; although victory isn’t certain, expect a close contest even if the favourite wins.
