Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Women's Euro match.
Only Portugal still retain a mathematical chance of reaching the play-offs. Belgium have already seen their hopes extinguished after just two rounds. Even so, the Portuguese’s hopes remain largely theoretical.
Portugal (women)
In theory, a draw might be enough for Portugal to pull level with Italy, but only if the Italians suffer a heavy defeat—something similar to the Portuguese’s own 0:5 loss. That kind of scoreline makes it unlikely that Portugal can surpass Italy. Are they capable of scoring three goals? That seems doubtful. Across six matches in the 2025 UEFA Women's Nations League A, they have found the net just five times. One of those came against Belgium in Leuven (1:0), but they were comfortably beaten in Funchal (0:3). Even securing a win here appears uncertain.
Belgium (women)
As for Belgium, their form has been inconsistent. They have been on the receiving end of heavy defeats in nearly half of their fixtures this calendar year—four out of ten. Still, unlike Portugal, they have produced some noteworthy performances. In the 2025 Nations League, they defeated reigning European champions England (3:2). They also managed to score twice against the current group leaders, Spain, despite eventually losing (2:6).
Portugal (women) vs Belgium (women) Prediction
Defensively, both teams have looked vulnerable, even under light pressure. However, Belgium appear better equipped to get a positive result, largely thanks to their more potent attack. With no pressure on them, they can approach this game with a sense of freedom, while Portugal will be weighed down by the need for a win.
