Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Eredivisie match.
PSV Eindhoven
PSV Eindhoven sit second in the Eredivisie (12 points from five rounds) and are prolific with 17 goals scored. At the Philips Stadion, the team traditionally play on the front foot, having thrashed Sparta Rotterdam (6:1) and Groningen (4:2). However, the defence looks vulnerable — nine goals have been conceded at home across five matches in all competitions. In the Champions League, PSV Eindhoven lost 3:1 to Union Berlin, exposing serious defensive issues. Personnel problems add to the challenge: Myron Boadu and Kiliann Sildillia are injured, so in attack the squad may have to rely on Ricardo Pepi, who has recently returned to action.
Ajax
Ajax are third on 11 points, play open, attractive football, but remain inconsistent. They have drawn twice away to mid-table sides Go Ahead Eagles (2:2) and Volendam (1:1), and they lost 2:0 to Inter Milan in the Champions League. At home, the team have won three Eredivisie matches on the spin, including a 3:1 victory over PEC Zwolle, where 20-year-old Mika Godts delivered a brace and an assist. However, trips to Eindhoven are often taxing, and Ajax have managed only two wins there in their last ten visits.
PSV Eindhoven vs Ajax Prediction
At the Philips Stadion, the hosts play on the front foot and rarely keep a clean sheet, and the visitors should capitalise. We expect both teams to trade goals and for the match to produce at least three goals.
