Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Eredivisie match.
One of the most important clashes on Saturday's European football agenda will take place in Eindhoven. PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord are locked in an intense race for the championship title, and the recent slip-up by PSV offers a glimmer of hope to their competitors.
PSV Eindhoven
A surprising defeat to SC Heerenveen (0:1) in the last round has cut PSV Eindhoven’s lead to just nine points over their closest rival. Despite this setback, they boast the best attack in the league, having scored 56 goals in 16 matches. Their emphatic victory over Koninklijke HFC (8:0) in the KNVB Cup showcased how quickly PSV can bounce back from disappointment—Ivica Perišić registered 2+1, while Ricardo Pepi scored twice. Eindhoven’s squad houses a fierce competition for starting spots, offering the manager a wealth of options.
Feyenoord
In the same KNVB Cup round of 32, Feyenoord overcame MVV Maastricht (2:1) with some difficulty, extending their unbeaten streak to eight matches. They have found the net 14 times in four December fixtures, and both teams to score have been a successful bet in nine of their last ten encounters. The Eredivisie runners-up have been effective at opening up games, exemplified by their victory over Heracles Almelo (5:2), where they created a plethora of chances (3.38–0.85 in xG).
PSV Eindhoven vs Feyenoord Prediction
The electrifying Dutch Super Cup in August saw Feyenoord clinch an emotional victory over PSV Eindhoven (5:4 on penalties). Both giants will undoubtedly push for an open style of play once more, and it’s expected that each side will manage at least one goal.
