Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Ascot Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (Group 1, 1m3½f, 3yo+) horse racing event.
The winner of the September Stakes at Kempton, Kalpana, leads the betting crowd. On the all-weather track, she outran Lion's Pride by 4 3⁄4 lengths. Prior to that, she clinched victory in the Glasgow Stakes with a nearly identical margin. However, Andrew Balding’s charge has yet to make her mark in Group 1 company.
Germany-born Quantanamera secured her first victory of the season in her last outing—the Grand Prix de Deauville in France. Earlier this year, she ran five times, finishing second in the Prix Corrida. Last year, she competed in the Oaks at home, where she finished fifth. This marks her maiden voyage across the English Channel.
Tiffany boasts three wins and a runner-up finish this year, two of which were in Germany. Sir Mark Prescott sent her twice to Baden-Baden, where she won a Listed race early in the season and claimed victory in the Group 2 T.von Zastrow Stutenpreis in her last outing. She started as the favourite in all four of those races. With odds of 7.50 on Unibet, she's an appealing each-way bet.
Content has had six starts this season. She was second in the Oaks behind You Got To Me, but avenged that with a win in the Yorkshire Oaks. Last time out, with a hood applied for the first time, she had a poor start and finished second to last in the Prix de l'Opera Longines at Longchamp. With the hood off this time and with odds of 6.50 on Unibet, we’re siding with Aidan O'Brien's runner for the win.
