Adam Williams presents his prediction for the Ascot Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1, 1m, 3yo+) horse racing event.
Charyn, trained by Roger Varian, leads the betting as the favourite. This colt's last two outings were in France, where he first claimed a Group 1 prize over 1600 metres and then narrowly missed out on defeating Tribalist in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, also a Group 1 event over a mile. Earlier in the year, he competed at a mile four times, winning each except for the Lockinge Stakes, where, much like in the Prix du Moulin, the winner led from start to finish. He is listed at 2.50 for victory on Unibet.
Germany-born Tamfana is one of three mares in the line-up, which lessens the confidence of the betting crowd. Her victories have only come against her own sex, notably in the Sun Chariot Stakes and the Atalanta Stakes. She faced male contenders in the Grand Prix de Paris, finishing fourth.
Facteur Cheval from France, a Dubai Turf winner, was sixth behind Charyn at Royal Ascot. Following that, he secured third place in the Sussex Stakes and hasn't run since. His successes over a mile date back to when he was two years old, and given the competitive field, it's hard to expect him to add another win here.
The three-year-old Henry Longfellow is still seeking his breakthrough victory this season. The colt has raced four times, coming closest at Ascot, where he was narrowly beaten by Rosallion by just a neck. His most recent race was on September 8 in the previously mentioned Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, where he finished third.
