Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
At last, both sides can breathe a sigh of relief: Queens Park Rangers have secured their place in the English Football League Championship, while Burnley have earned promotion to the English Premier League for next season. However, the visitors are likely still eyeing one more objective — winning the league title itself, which also comes with a trophy. Why not add another piece of silverware to the club’s cabinet?
Queens Park Rangers
In fact, Queens Park Rangers had already eased the pressure a round earlier. Ahead of Matchday 44, they were ten points clear of the relegation zone, so the 1:2 defeat to Swansea City did not come as much of a surprise. That said, Swansea City themselves had little left to play for. Prior to that, Queens Park Rangers put together a four-match unbeaten run, registering two wins and two draws. Interestingly, both victories came away from home — not what many would have expected at first glance.
Burnley
Had Burnley not drawn 16 matches this season, they might have already secured the Championship title. Still, their recent form has been impressive: six wins and one draw from their last seven matches. That solitary draw came in a goalless encounter against a desperate Derby County side. During this stretch, Burnley have displayed a consistent attacking threat — scoring twice in five of those games. In four of those fixtures, they needed to do so, as their opponents also managed to find a way past James Trafford. This was particularly the case in their most recent outing against fellow title challengers Sheffield United.
Queens Park Rangers vs Burnley Prediction
Given Burnley’s ongoing motivation to top the standings, and the evident quality of their squad, the visitors are expected to take points from this clash. They may concede, but it is difficult to envision a scoreline other than the increasingly familiar 2:1. With that in mind, we are including Total Under 3.5 goals in our combination.
